So. Mormons are encouraged to date often. This is fine; people like to date and get married, etc. But the problem is that I feel it always has either too much of an air of formality or it is too casual.
A great way that people outside of Mormon culture express their interest and invite a girl to do something is by saying something along the lines of, “Let me buy you a drink sometime,” or “Want to go get a cup of coffee?” This has the touch of formality, showing interest, but is casual enough to keep it simple for a first date. The problem is that within Mormon culture, there is no real equivalent. You can say, “Let’s go get some ice cream,” or “Let’s go get some hot chocolate sometime,” but it just doesn’t have the same feeling to it. It just feels so informal while keeping all of the awkwardness of a first date. So what is the Mormon equivalent? Does anyone out there have an answer for me? We can’t go get drinks, and goodness knows there’s only one coffee shop in Provo (and only heathens go there!). What is a good first date idea that shows a girl you’re interested, but keeps it casual?
